Even Koh Phangan was initially discovered by backpackers a mere 20 years ago, Koh Phangan was already inhabited as long as two thousand years ago by sea gypsies traveling by boat from the Malayan Peninsula. Phanganwas then later settled by Chinese migrants most of them originating from Hainan .
The southeastern part of Kohpangan is the main partyarea including Haad Rin and the fullmoon party beach. Nearly all of the area around HaadRin is mountains making most of the fantastic white beachesunable to reach by road, the only way to get to them is by boat from HaadRin.
There are many ways to move around on the island, you can take a local taxi cab for a small amount of Baht,or you are experienced enough you can rent a crossbike or motor car and drive around in your own adgenda.
Maipenrai is not just a translation of 'no problem' here, it is also the name of a popular place on the north side of the island.

For those of the travelers who find Samuia bit too overly priced or a bit too busy with too many construction sites, Kohphangan is the ideal destination to relax and chill in Southern Thailand.
You can use the concrete roads to HaadRin, but you have been warned that the concrete roads are not in the best state and only if consider yourself a good motorcycle rider then do not attempt to get to HaadRin, as nearly all accidents involving motorbikes happen in this area. Our advice is to leave your scooter at the 7/11 at Baan Tai and pay approx 50 Baht for a taxi over the hills to HaadRin.
